The former Lauterschule was house 1 of the Jena-Plan School in Suhl until the 2007/2008 school year . The listed building is the oldest still existing school building in the city. It was built around 1907–1909 due to the overcrowding of the other schools. Since the school year 2005/2006 the Lauterschule was closed due to renovation. However, no renovation work followed. All sub, middle and upper groups as well as the 10th year of the Jenaplan school moved to Rennsteigstraße 4 in Suhl-Nord.

history

In March 1905, asked magistrate Suhl and the arms manufacturers Louis Schlegelmilch from Spandau - but born in Suhl - the sale of the land on the hill in the district of "The Loud" to build a school. In October Schlegelmilch donated the building site to the city of Suhl and in November the city council decided to build the school. In 1906 the city announced an architecture competition for the planning of the Lauterschule, this was the first time for a public building in Suhl. The first prize of 500 Reichsmarks (equivalent to around 3,100 euros) went to the architect Rudolf Ludloff from Munich . The following year there was a dispute between him and the city because of the unexpectedly high construction costs. In August 1907 the handicrafts were put out to tender and local craftsmen were selected as a priority. The construction work stretched from September 1907 to September 1909 and cost 171,000 Reichsmarks (the equivalent of around 1,008,000 euros). The school was inaugurated on October 2nd, 1909 by the city council of Suhl.

The two-storey school building is a solid building with a basement in Art Nouveau forms with a converted attic. The listed building was put up for sale in 2013.
