The Laverda V6 (1977) was a racing motorcycle from the Italian manufacturer Laverda , which was only used once at the Bol d'Or in 1978 .

Development and technology

The Laverda V6 was just a test vehicle for the company to develop a new generation of Laverda motorcycles. The bike was not designed to win races, even though the top speed was well above the competition. The water-cooled six - cylinder engine , designed by Giulio Alfieri , was mounted lengthways in the frame. The cylinder bank angle of the V-engine was 90 degrees, the bore 65 mm and the stroke 50 mm, the engine had four valves per combustion chamber and two overhead camshafts per cylinder head and was created within just 12 months.

Six Dell'Orto carburetors stood vertically between the cylinder heads, the exhaust gases were discharged through two tailpipes on each side. The oil tank was located directly under the seat, and the rear suspension shock absorber was initially under the engine. The single shock absorber was later replaced by two Marzocchi shock absorbers due to problems with the deflection .

During the race on the Circuit Paul Ricard , the cardan shaft broke, so that the one-time race also meant the end of further development. In 1991 the model was exhibited at the Milan motorcycle fair, Laverda is planning a small series of 50 copies for collectors, but this approach is not pursued any further.

One of the two built examples is still demonstrated by Piero Laverda at classic races.
