Le Grand Ricci

The Chinese - French dictionary Le Grand Dictionnaire Ricci de la langue chinoise ( Chinese  利 氏 漢 法 辭典 , Pinyin Lishi Han-Fa cidian ) in 7 volumes, with entries for around 13,500 characters and 300,000 compound words and phrases, is the largest Chinese- Western-language dictionary. Other special features are that it records both classical and modern Chinese, specifies character forms in oracle bone script and offers further etymological information that is otherwise not common in bilingual dictionaries. The pronunciation is given in the Wade-Giles transcription.

The dictionary is named after the Italian missionary Matteo Ricci , who worked in China in the 17th century.

It is the follow-up edition to Petit Ricci from 1979 with 6,000 characters and 50,000 words and has seven volumes with a total of around 8,900 pages.

The Grand Ricci was published in 2001 by the Ricci Institute in Paris and Taipei . The Ricci Institute translates important works from Chinese into European languages ​​and conducts research on Chinese science and culture.
