Le Papillon polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Le Papillon Polka is a Polka - Mazurka by Johann Strauss II (op 174th). The work was first performed on December 16, 1855 in Vienna's Volksgarten .

Remarks

The polka was premiered at the same time as the Marie Taglioni polka at a concert by the Strauss Chapel in Vienna's Volksgarten. The work, which should be reminiscent of a butterfly in the middle of winter (hence the name), is, in the opinion of some Strauss connoisseurs, one of the most attractive works of that creative phase. However, the following year, during Johann Strauss' trip to Russia, the audience there rejected it.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 37 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
