Le Roi Soleil ( French: "The Sun King" ) is a French musical by Kamel Ouali about the life of the "Sun King" Louis XIV. Le Roi Soleil premiered on September 22, 2005 at the Palais des Sports in Paris .

At the beginning of the first act, the young Ludwig is crowned in Reims . However, Cardinal Mazarin and Ludwig's mother Anna of Austria claim the government for themselves because Ludwig is still too young. Ludwig later falls in love with the bourgeois Italian immigrant Marie Mancini, a niece of Mazarin. To assert himself as king, Ludwig goes to war, where he is badly wounded. Due to his apparently imminent death, Ludwig's brother is made king. Ludwig himself is quickly forgotten, only Marie fights for the life of the young king. After recovering, he learns that only Marie has worried about him, whereupon Ludwig proposes to her. But Ludwig is not allowed to marry Marie due to French law, so Mazarin and Anne of Austria ban her into exile.

At the beginning of the 2nd act Mazarin dies and Ludwig takes over the complete reign over France and makes himself the Sun King. Ludwig soon began to have the Palace of Versailles built while he was looking for diversion in numerous stories of women. Later, Ludwig managed what he could not do with Marie: he married the commoner Françoise d'Aubigné, who was previously the governess of Ludwig's illegitimate children.
