Kurt Exner (politician)
Kurt Georg Exner (born May 15, 1901 in Berlin ; † November 12, 1996 there ) was a German SPD politician.
Life
Exner joined the SPD after the First World War . From 1926 he was a full-time trade union secretary on the board of the General German Trade Union Confederation . In 1929 he became a member of the district assembly in Berlin-Neukölln . After the Nazis came to power , he worked as a manager at the Dr. A. Ristow , who until August 1935 was able to publish the weekly magazine Blick in die Zeit , which is critical of the regime . The editor was Andreas Gayk .
After 1945 Exner lived in the East Berlin district of Prenzlauer Berg . Here he got problems with the Soviet military administration , so that he moved to West Berlin in the Neukölln district . In 1949 he became district mayor of the district in which he had already been chairman of the then largest SPD department before 1933.
Willy Brandt , Governing Mayor of Berlin , appointed him to the office of Senator for Labor and Social Affairs in 1959. In 1967 Kurt Exner left his government office for health reasons and left the House of Representatives in 1971 .
Honors
- Exner was buried in an honorary grave of the State of Berlin in the Parkfriedhof Neukölln (Urnenhain 7-5a, exclave).
- He was appointed city elder of Berlin .
- In the Pankow district of Prenzlauer Berg is after him Kurt Exner street named.
- In Berlin-Neukölln , Gropiusstadt district , the Kurt-Exner-Haus care center has been named after his name.
- He was awarded the Marie Juchacz plaque from the Arbeiterwohlfahrt in 1969.
