Manfred Dennert (born July 1, 1939 in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg ) was a SPD politician until he left in 1996 and district mayor of Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg from 1990 to 1995 .

Life

Manfred Dennert said he grew up in a social democratic family: his father became a member of the SPD after the war and remained in the East Berlin SPD even after the forced unification . Manfred Dennert began studying at the Technical University in (West) Berlin in 1959 and at that time joined the SPD in East Berlin, which continued to exist until 1961 due to the city's four-power status . In the autumn of 1989 he became a member of a base group of the newly emerging SDP and later founded base group 8 on Arnimplatz , which he chaired until the election of the district mayor.

He was elected on May 7th by the District Assembly as District Mayor of Prenzlauer Berg and confirmed in office after the election on May 24th, 1992. In the 1995 Berlin election , the SPD lost 6.6% to 26.2% and was behind the PDS for the first time since 1990 (34.7%, + 11.3%). The SPD then no longer put Manfred Dennert as mayor candidate in the district assembly, but Reinhard Kraetzer . This was only elected on February 7, 1996. Manfred Dennert then resigned from the SPD and left the SPD parliamentary group. With the election on October 10, 1999 , he resigned from the district assembly.
