Horst Hilbert

Horst Hilbert (born October 17, 1919 in Berlin ; † August 29, 2003 ) was a German local politician ( SED ). He was mayor of the East Berlin boroughs of Lichtenberg and Prenzlauer Berg .

Life

Hilbert, the son of a worker, learned the trade of a mechanic after attending primary school . During the Second World War he was drafted into the Wehrmacht .

After the war he became a member of the KPD in August 1945 and of the SED in 1946. He first worked in the social affairs of Friedrichshain and from 1949 as administrative director in the Friedrichshain hospital . After attending a course at the Administration Academy, he was elected district mayor of Lichtenberg in 1951. Four years later followed an annual course at the party college and from March 1956 to February 1964 Horst Hilbert was again district mayor, this time in the Prenzlauer Berg district. This was followed by a two-year course at the Industrial Institute of the Technical University of Dresden , which he graduated as a Dipl.-Ing. oec. completed. From 1957 Hilbert was a member of the main committee of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities. On November 1, 1965, he was re-elected mayor of Lichtenberg. He held this office until July 7, 1967.

He then acted from July 1967 to May 1970 as 1st Deputy Mayor of Berlin. On May 20, 1970 he was appointed city councilor and head of urban technical supply, and was also chairman of the Berlin district energy commission. He held this office for ten years until October 30, 1980.

Hilbert died at the age of 83.
