Siegfried Heimann

Siegfried Heimann (born September 14, 1939 in Langenau ) is a German historian and political scientist .

Life

Heimann grew up in Görlitz , passed the Abitur and fled the GDR to West Germany in 1957 . There he studied history, German and philosophy at the universities of Münster , Berlin and London . He was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD . After his habilitation he obtained the teaching certificate for Political Science .

Heimann is a private lecturer (exempt) at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the Otto Suhr Institute of the Free University of Berlin. From 1997 to 2009 he lectured at the German Studies faculty of the Berlin branch of Dartmouth College . He is co-editor of the trade journal WerkstattGeschichte and has published works on the history of the Weimar Republic, the parties after 1945 and the Prussian parliaments. He also wrote essays on the history of Berlin with a focus on the post-war period and the SPD in East Berlin .

Heimann joined the SPD on May 1, 1965 . He had been a member of the historical commission of the SPD since the 1990s and from 1998 to 2015 chairman of the historical commission of the SPD Berlin .
