Martin Hikel
Martin Hikel (born April 30, 1986 in Berlin ) is a German politician ( SPD ). He has been District Mayor of the Berlin district of Neukölln since March 21, 2018 . From 2016 to 2018 he was chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the district assembly of Berlin-Neukölln.
Professional background
Martin Hikel laid in 2005 at the Albert Einstein High School in the Berlin district of Britz , the High School , and made subsequent to 2006 civil service in a home for mentally handicapped people.
In 2006 he began studying political science and mathematics at the Free University of Berlin , which he completed in 2013 with the academic degree Master of Education .
After working as a pedagogical employee, Hikel completed a teaching traineeship at a Berlin school from 2014 to 2016 .
Subsequently, until his election as district mayor in March 2018, he was a political and mathematics teacher at the John F. Kennedy School in Berlin-Zehlendorf .
politics
Hikel joined the SPD in 2005 and has been a member of the executive board of the SPD department in Rudow since 2008 . Between 2009 and 2013 he was chairman of the Neukölln Young Socialists Association.
In the Berlin elections in 2011 , Hikel was elected to the district assembly of Berlin-Neukölln, where he became a member of the committees for traffic and civil engineering, administration and equality, and youth welfare.
In 2016 the SPD parliamentary group of the district assembly elected him as the new parliamentary group leader. As such, he is also a member of the SPD Neukölln district executive.
In addition, Hikel has been chairman of the SPD department in Rudow since 2014. In the Berlin elections in 2016 , Hikel also ran for the Berlin House of Representatives in the Neukölln 7 constituency , but missed the move.
After the previous district mayor, Franziska Giffey, moved to the federal government as the new federal family minister, the SPD parliamentary group officially proposed Hikel as his successor on March 16, 2018.
On March 21, 2018, the district assembly of Berlin-Neukölln elected him with the votes of the SPD and Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen as the new district mayor. At the same time, he was head of the department for finance and economics as well as the road and green space department.
Born in Friedrichshain, Hikel is the youngest mayor in Berlin in terms of age.
Social work
Hikel is involved in various organizations, including the Friends of Neuköllns Association , the Rudower Heimatverein and the Social Association Germany .
Hikel is also a member of the Education and Science Union .
