Oliver Igel (born April 9, 1978 in Berlin ) is a German local politician ( SPD ). He is the district mayor of the Berlin district of Treptow-Köpenick .

Igel grew up in the Berlin district of Köpenick . After high school he graduated from in 1997 the military service at the Infantry Battalion 1 of the Bundeswehr , before studying at the University of Berlin in the subjects of Modern German Literature , Modern History and Political Science recorded. He completed this in 2004 with a Magister Artium . Igel wrote his master's thesis on comic prose during the peaceful revolution in 1989 . During his studies he worked as a freelancer for the Berliner Zeitung between 2001 and 2003 . For seven years Igel also worked in the foundation for coming to terms with the SED dictatorship . In 2009 he became a research associate and office manager of the SPD member of the Bundestag Hans-Joachim Hacker .

After the elections for the district assembly in 2001, Igel became the cultural policy spokesman and deputy parliamentary group leader of the SPD in the district assembly in Treptow-Köpenick. Since 2006 he has been chairman of the SPD parliamentary group there. In a counting community with the votes of the SPD, CDU and Greens , Igel was elected on October 27, 2011 as the youngest district mayor of Berlin for Treptow-Köpenick. He is also responsible for the human resources, finance, economy and real estate department in his district.

Igel is involved in the fight against right-wing extremism, which is strongly represented in his district ( Schöneweide ), and has made unpopular decisions such as: B. the ban on barbecuing in Treptower Park . He campaigns against night flights and for changed flight routes to Berlin-Schönefeld Airport.

The politician lives with his partner Ellen Haußdörfer (SPD-BVV member) in Köpenick. Their son was born on August 31, 2013.
