About this picture

The district administration has also chosen a division into district regions and has provided brief profiles for each.

history

Already at the time of the Slavs , who gave the city its name with Copnic (island town), castles and settlements were built at the confluence of the Dahme and Spree rivers . It was first mentioned in documents under the name Copenic in 1209 . As the main castle and main settlement of the Slavic tribe of the Sprewanen under their prince Jaxa von Köpenick (* before 1125 - † February 1176 ) it became the settlement center of the Köpenicker area.

1920-2000

With the formation of Greater Berlin, the administrative district of Cöpenick was basically created north of the Spree from the following places: Bohnsdorf, Carolinenhof, Cöpenick, Friedrichshagen, Grünau, Hessenwinkel, Hirschgarten, Müggelheim, Rahnsdorf, Rauchfangswerder, Schmöckwitz, Wilhelmshagen. Primarily south of the Spree, the Treptow administrative district was formed from Adlershof, Alt-Glienicke, Johannisthal, Niederschöneweide, Oberschöneweide, Treptow, Wuhlheide. The locations and districts of 1920 were rearranged, especially in 1938.

In the post-war period , the area of the Treptow and Köpenick districts belonged to East Berlin until German reunification .

Since 2001

The districts of Treptow and Köpenick , which were independent until the administrative reform in 2001 , were combined. Since then they have taken up almost 19% of the entire urban area of around 892 km². This makes Treptow-Köpenick the largest district in Berlin in terms of area .

coat of arms

Today's coat of arms was awarded by the Berlin Senate on September 21, 2004 and emerged from the previous coat of arms of the districts of Treptow and Köpenick and brought together the various stylistic elements.

Coat of arms of borough Treptow-Koepenick.svg

Blazon : In blue a green dew cross with pawed ends, provided with a golden bar border, accompanied by two inward-facing upright silver fish. The rope cross is covered with a golden key with a left-facing beard and 7 four-pointed stars (4: 2: 1). A red three-tower wall crown rests on the shield , the central tower of which is covered with the Berlin coat of arms .

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms of the Treptow-Köpenick district was created from the elements of the previously existing coats of arms of the Treptow and Köpenick districts. The Köpenick coat of arms exerted a greater influence here, as it is significantly older than the Treptow coat of arms. The coat of arms of the city of Köpenick is documented as early as the 14th century and already showed a key and two silver fish on a blue shield as a reference to St. Peter the patron saint of fishermen , as well as seven stars. A T-shaped shield division with green tinging refers to the Treptow district , which picks up on the predominant color of the Treptow coat of arms and their representation of trees and thereby indicates the abundance of forests. When the district was founded as part of the district reform in 2001, both old coats of arms of the married districts were first used together sovereignly - as part of the process of finding the coat of arms, the design of the heraldist Frank Diemar was adopted as a uniform coat of arms three years later . The crown of the wall is the connecting element of all Berlin districts .
