Gernot Klemm (born January 26, 1965 in Berlin ) is a German politician ( Die Linke ). From 1995 to 2006 and from 2009 to 2011 he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives . Since 2011 he has been a city ​​councilor ( department head ) in the Treptow-Köpenick district , and has also been the deputy mayor of the district since January 2015.

Study and job

After a polytechnic high school and vocational training with a high school diploma , which he completed in 1984, Klemm worked as a skilled worker for railway technology and then as a route manager. Between 1988 and 1990 he did his basic military service with the riot police in Basdorf . From 1990 to 1991 he was a police officer in Berlin . In 1992 he began studying political science at the University of Potsdam , graduating in 1997 with a degree in political science.

Klemm became a member of the SED in 1983 . From 1991 to 1992 he was a member of the Berlin PDS state board. From 1994 to 2000 he was district chairman of the PDS- Weißensee and from 2000 to 2008 district chairman of the PDS and the Left in the Pankow district .

From 1990 to 1992, Klemm was a member of the district assembly in Köpenick , and from 1992 to 1995 that of Weißensee. From November 1995 to October 2006 he was a member of the Berlin House of Representatives. From December 2006 until the end of 2011 he was the coordinator of the parliamentary group chairman conference of the Left. On November 2, 2009, he moved back into the House of Representatives as a replacement for Stefan Liebich, who was elected to the Bundestag, and was the economic policy spokesman for the left-wing parliamentary group there until his departure at the end of 2011.

On December 15, 2011 he was elected city councilor for youth by the Treptow-Köpenick district council. When he took over the management of the local regulatory office in March 2013, he became city councilor for youth and public order in the Treptow-Köpenick district office and is also the supervisor of the day care center in the south-east of Berlin. On November 9, 2014, he was elected to the state executive committee of the Berlin Left.

On January 29, 2015, he was elected Deputy District Mayor by the District Council of Treptow-Köpenick and appointed to the City Council for Labor, Social Affairs and Health. Michael Grunst (Die Linke) took on his previous presentation .
