From the former site of the television of the GDR , the Academy of Sciences of the GDR and the guards regiment "Feliks Dzerzhinsky" public funding from the Science and Technology Park Adlershof (WISTA) was created with the help. The development company Adlershof mbH (EGA), founded in 1991 by the State of Berlin, renamed WISTA-Management GmbH in 1994   and has since been responsible for the operation and further development of the science city. As the Berlin regional company, it is responsible for marketing, public relations and economic development at the Adlershof location. With the WISTA start-up centers, business support offers and various start-up funding projects, it supports the settlement of companies and start-ups in the technology park. It is also involved in the development of other future locations in Berlin: in Schöneweide with the Berlin Southeast regional management and the innovation workshop, in Charlottenburg with the Charlottenburg Innovation Center (CHIC) and in Dahlem with the development of the FUBIC technology and start-up center.

The eagle frame and the railway line practically separate two worlds: on the one hand the high-tech WISTA development area, on the other hand the historic old town center founded over 250 years ago.

As an independent project of Expo 2000 , the Adlershof Science and Technology Park was largely created under the project name Berlin Adlershof - City for Science, Business and Media . Since 2001, that is facilities management through the Adlershof Facility Management GmbH (AFM), a subsidiary of WISTA-Management GmbH , provided.

Library building of the Humboldt University

At the end of 2007, WISTA was released from development law. The expansion continues according to the projects identified in the district, including the preliminary construction work on the northern edge up to Hermann-Dorner-Allee . There are still some developed larger areas in reserve for development (as of 2012).

In all of the years since development began, numerous companies from the high-tech sector have been able to settle on the park . WISTA experienced a major development boost through the gradual relocation of the natural science departments of the Humboldt University from downtown Berlin to Adlershof. In the period from 1998 to 2003, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences with the institutes for chemistry, computer science, mathematics, physics and the Institute of Geography and the Institute for Psychology of the Faculty of Life Sciences settled on the Adlershof campus .

The Humboldt University conducts top-level research and the promotion of young talent on site with the integrative research institutes IRIS Adlershof and IRI THESys. Since 2007, the university has been campaigning for equal opportunities in science and research with the FiNCA project and is promoting young women in the mathematical and natural science disciplines on campus.

The Adlershof Science and Technology Park is one of Berlin's future locations with supraregional appeal. Research, development and work is carried out at the site in the following sectors (as of 2015):

  • Photonics and optics
  • Photovoltaics and Renewable Energies
  • Microsystems and materials
  • Information technology (IT) and media
  • Biotechnology and the environment

In the technology and start-up centers operated by WISTA-Management GmbH, young companies and founders can find professional support to help them settle down in Adlershof.

1128 companies and several non-university research institutes are now located on the WISTA site, including

The commercial Berlin development company immobilien-experten-ag has been a major private investor on the WISTA site since the 2010s . It builds the campus for trade and technology - "Am Oktogon" . The dominant building will be Tower B5 , which will represent a gate-like situation in this park area and will be created according to the design of the architect Gunter P. J. Bürg. The seven-story tower offers 3600 m² of usable space and is intended to serve as the landmark of the campus, which will then comprise 17 new buildings. Completion will take place in 2020 and, if the builders want it, it will then receive the Leed Gold sustainability certificate from the US Green Building Council.

The development company WISTA.Plan GmbH (formerly: Adlershof Projekt GmbH ) as the urban development agency and trustee of the State of Berlin is responsible for the development, land-use planning, project management of clearance and infrastructure measures, administration of trust assets and the settlement of companies in the development area of WISTA (Johannisthal / Adlershof). With the residential construction project living on campus, more than 1,600 rental and owner-occupied apartments , townhouses and almost 400 student apartments have been built in the Adlershof development area over 17  hectares north of Rudower Chaussee . Two of the construction projects from the district received awards in 2017. Tetris Adlershof received the German Design Award and the German Brick Prize. The Newton project won the EnEff.Gebuilding.2050 ideas competition in the “Concepts of future- oriented buildings and neighborhoods” category. Current residential construction projects include living on Campus II, the rental housing project “Straße am Flugplatz” and “Viva City Adlershof” on Eisenhutweg on a 16,000 m² area.

So far, around 540 million euros in funding have flowed from GRW funds into the infrastructure of the science city of Adlershof.
