The Aerodynamic Park is located in the northwest of the university quarter of the Humboldt University on the campus in the Berlin district of Adlershof . The park (landscaping by Thomanek and Duquesnoy) got its name from three peculiar architectures: the whirling tower , the soundproof engine test bench and the large wind tunnel . The monuments were during the 1920s and 1930s as part of the time at the airport Johannisthal settled German laboratory for aviation (DVL) built. The industrial monuments are reminiscent of the first German business-run airport , which was in operation as an airfield from 1909 to 1952 , as well as the aforementioned research institute, which was established there in 1912.

The spin tower and noise-dampened engine test bench are in central positions on the square, the large wind tunnel delimits it to the southeast. The engine altitude test bench is located in the south-west behind the hazardous materials warehouse . The permanent sound installation AIR BORNE was created for the park in 2006 (a project by the artist Stefan Krüskemper with the assistance of the composer Karlheinz Essl ), which relates to the history of the aerodynamic park and also sounds from the German Broadcasting Archive in Potsdam-Babelsberg (previously: Berlin -Adlershof) as starting materials.

The spatial-architectural version of the square has been created in recent years by a series of new buildings for university use. In the west, the hazardous materials warehouse (architect: Benedikt Tonon) is bordered by the Institute for Chemistry, the northern edge of the square is formed by the lecture hall building (architects: Volker Staab with Alfred Nieuwenhuizen) and to the east, beyond Newtonstrasse, by the Institute for Physics (architects: Georg Augustin and Ute Frank).
