The pharmaceutical company Menarini was 1886 founded and has its headquarters in Florence . In 2012 (2006) the Group had 16,640 (12,451) employees worldwide who generated sales of € 3.212 (2.503) billion. This makes the Menarini Group the largest Italian pharmaceutical company. The Chief Executive Officer of Menarini is Lucia Aleotti.

In 1915 the company moved from Naples to Florence.

In 1976 the "Menarini Diagnostics" department was founded, which currently has 13 subsidiaries. The Menarini Group has had its own research department (R&D - Research & Development) since 1978, which currently has around 750 employees. In 1992 Menarini took over the Berlin-Chemie company , through which it gained access to the Eastern European market. 1994 a separate department for was non-prescription medicines that "OTC Division" was founded. In 2006, drug production was bought by AWD.pharma . The plant in Dresden was then given the historical name of Heyden again .
