Stern und Kreisschiffahrt GmbH Berlin is one of around 150 Berlin shipping companies and is based in Alt-Treptow .

Company data

The company was founded on August 8, 1888 by the Stettin merchant Gustav Krokisius of the Berlin and Stralau Steam Shipping Company with the support of a Szczecin bank under the name Spree-Havel Steam Shipping Company "Stern" . The name Sterndampfer has become established for the ships . Around 1919 it operated 27 steamers , with which over 1.8 million passengers were carried on the Berlin and Märker waters in one year . In 1934 the steam shipping company merged with the Teltower Kreisschiffahrt to form the Stern und Kreisschiffahrt of Teltowkanal AG . After 1945, as is well known, the city of Berlin split, which meant that Stern und Kreis was only active in West Berlin . The German reunification in 1992 led to the merger with the East Berlin White Fleet Berlin with the reassignment of the name from the 1930s. In the 21st century, the company, which is part of the Hegemann Group , operates ferry and excursion traffic in and around Berlin with 32 passenger ships . It is one of the largest passenger shipping companies in Berlin and Brandenburg in terms of the number of ships, jetties and the number of people transported. Three ships no longer operate constantly (as of 2014). In 2018, Stern und Kreisschiffahrt participated in the newly founded Solar Circle Line , which will operate two Suncat 120 solar passenger ships in Berlin from 2020, which will be built by the Kiebitzberg shipyard .
