Ferry traffic in Berlin

BVG ferry lines

The ferry traffic in Berlin is partly operated on behalf of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) and in these cases is integrated into the tariff system of the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB). The free ride for disabled is possible to the BVG lines.

BVG route network

There are the following six ferry lines that are operated by ships of the Stern and Kreisschiffahrt (line F10) or the Stralsund White Fleet (remaining connections) on behalf of the BVG:

Line over the Wannsee (F10)

Passenger ship Lichterfelde , formerly used as a passenger ferry between Wannsee and Kladow

The ferry line F10 across the Großer Wannsee is operated all year round.

At 4.4 kilometers, it is the longest and, with around 150,000 passengers annually, the most popular ferry line. Until the end of 2013, the Lichterfelde ship was used in summer , and the smaller Tempelhof in winter - when there are fewer day trippers .

The ferry service was put out to tender at the turn of the year 2013/2014, the operation is still carried out by Stern und Kreisschiffahrt. The newly built Wannsee ship can carry up to 300 people and is barrier-free . It has been in use since January 20, 2014.

Lines on Dahme and Spree (F11, F12, F21, F23)

Electric ferry FährBär 1 on BVG line F11

The ferry lines F11 (Oberschöneweide, Wilhelmstrand - Baumschulenstraße) and F12 (Wendenschloß, Müggelbergallee - Grünau, Wassersportallee) are operated all year round, the ferry lines F21 (Krampenburg - Schmöckwitz, Zum Seeblick) and F23 (Müggelwerderweg - Rahnsdorf, Kruggasse) seasonally from March to October .

The F11 line between Wilhelmstrand and Baumschulenweg is the oldest ferry line in Berlin; it went into operation for the trade exhibition in 1896 . After the opening of the Minna-Todenhagen Bridge , ferry traffic was originally supposed to be stopped. Due to user protests, the ferry will continue to operate until the end of 2018, until then the passenger numbers will be monitored.

After a new tender at the turn of the year 2013/2014, operations on these four lines were transferred from Stern und Kreisschiffahrt to the Stralsund White Fleet . As a result, low-emission and therefore environmentally friendly solar ferries have been used since the beginning of 2014 . They each have 28 seats, two wheelchair spaces and ten bicycle spaces. The ships are designated as FährBär 1… 4 . The former Ferry III , which was sold by Stern- und Kreisschiffahrt to the White Fleet Stralsund in 2014 and now also bears the name Fährbär , serves as a reserve boat .

Rowing ferry (F24)

F24 ferry line

The ferry line F24 (Spreewiesen - Rahnsdorf) over the Müggelspree runs from May to October.

It is the smallest of the six BVG ferries and Germany's only row ferry operated by a transport company. A similar connection near Sellin / Rügen is operated privately by a local resident. The rowing boat Paule III , built in 1993 at a Duisburg shipyard, is used. It is five meters long and offers space for eight people, and bicycles can also be transported. The ferryman crosses the 36 meters about 40 times a day. There is a timetable, but the ferry will also take place at other times as soon as people are at the landing stage. That hadn't changed since 1911, when Richard Hilliges, a fisherman from Rahnsdorf, started operating the ferry. After the old contracts with Berliner Stern- und Kreisschifffahrt came to an end, the ferry stopped operating at the end of the 2013 season. At the initiative of the Heimatverein Köpenick, however, the connection could be revived. He had collected 18,000 signatures and handed them over to the Berlin Senate . The rowing ferry resumed operation on May 1, 2015, and then operates on weekends and public holidays until the end of the season in autumn. This year, from May to October, it carried a total of 7,170 passengers and 2,720 bicycles.

  • Rahnsdorf ferrymen:
    • Richard Hilliges (1911-1942)
    • Richard Hörnke (1947–1978)
    • Paul Rahn (1978-2002)
    • Ronald Kebelmann (2003-2017)
    • Marcel Franke (since 2018)
