Valentinswerder is an island in Tegeler See in Berlin . It is located on the edge of the lake in an archipelago that separates the lake from the Havel . Maienwerder , Baumwerder , Reiswerder and Scharfenberg also belong to this group of islands . The west bank of the island is considered to be the western boundary of the lake opposite the Havel. The Große Wall to the south-west is no longer in the Tegeler See and counts as a Havel island.

Valentinswerder is 132,028  m² in size, making it the second largest island in Lake Tegel . It has belonged to the Reinickendorf district, Tegel district , since the 1930s . 26 inhabitants live permanently on the island.

history

Listed residential building Valentinswerder 84

Valentinswerder has been privately owned for many centuries. In 1874 the great grandfather Paul Haberkern of the current owner Werner Haberkern acquired the island.

The island is mainly used by the owners of the numerous weekend houses . Since the island is not subject to the Federal Allotment Garden Act, there are also some permanent residents and the Frithjof-Haveleck sailing club. Individual houses are massive and are now partly under monument protection (see also: List of cultural monuments in Berlin-Tegel ) .

A passenger ferry connects Valentinswerder and Maienwerder with the mainland. The ferry landing stages are in Hakenfelde on Fährweg and on the Havelspitze, in Tegelort and in Saatwinkel .

natural reserve

The island is part of the LSG-2C Islands landscape protection area in Tegeler See, which was formed in 1960 . Their use is therefore subject to considerable restrictions and in some cases requires special permits from the nature conservation authority, for example in the case of bank extensions and the construction of jetties.
