Hasselwerder is the northernmost island in the Berlin district of Reinickendorf belonging Lake Tegel . It is around 300 meters long and 60 meters wide, and has an area of 12,321 m².

owner

The island belonged to Gut Tegel from 1755 . In 1766, the Tegel estate and castle, including the island, came into the possession of the von Humboldt family , whose descendants are still the owners today.

use

The estate management opened a bathing establishment on Hasselwerder in 1911, which was operated by various tenants and existed with interruptions until 1954. The shipowner Walter Haupt leased the island in 1946, used Hasselwerder as the home port for his ships and lived on the island himself. In 1950 he converted an old farm building into a restaurant, Wirtshaus Hasselwerder / Zum Insulaner . After the bathing establishment was closed, Walter Haupt leased parking spaces for tents and later also arbours to summer guests. There are still several of these arbors on the island today. The island has a jetty on the northeast side for supplies.

natural reserve

The island is part of the LSG-2C Islands landscape protection area in Tegeler See, which was formed in 1960 . Their use is therefore subject to considerable restrictions and in some cases requires special permits from the nature conservation authority, for example in the case of bank extensions and the construction of jetties.
