With Müggelspree a section which is Spree in the German federal states of Brandenburg and Berlin , respectively. The Brandenburg part of the Müggelspree begins in the east at the weir Große Tränke ( Fürstenwalder Spree ), four kilometers west of the city of Fürstenwalde / Spree . This weir was built in the course of the Oder-Spree Canal , which opened in 1891 , in order to maintain the water level in the Fürstenwalder Spree stretch. Since then, only smaller vehicles have a passage next to the weir by means of a boat tow. Up to the Dämeritzsee the Müggelspree has only water management significance. The second part of Müggelspree begins in the western part of the Dämeritzsees and runs initially for about three kilometers through the Berlin local documents Hessenwinkel , New Venice , settlement Schönhorst and the district Rahnsdorf in the district of Treptow-Koepenick . The only rowing ferry line in Germany operates between Rahnsdorf / Kruggasse and Müggelheim / Spreewiesen in the summer months . In Rahnsdorf am Entenwall , the Müggelspree forms the Kleiner Müggelsee at around 500 meters before it flows into the Großer Müggelsee at the Kelchsecke, through which it flows over its entire length of 3.5 kilometers.
