from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Leandris ( Greek Λεανδρίς Leandrís , female form of Leandros ) was the wife of the Spartan king Anaxandros from the house of the Agiads and the mother of Eurykratidas in Greek mythology .

When the Spartans conquered Messenia they took women home as spoils of war. Leandris chose a woman based on a dream. Her name was Kleo and she was the priestess of Thetis . Leandris noticed that Cleo had the cult image of the goddess with him and had a thetis shrine built in Sparta to keep the wooden image.
