Leandro Gallerano (* around 1580 in or near Brescia ; † 1632 in Padua ) was an Italian organist , conductor and composer.

life and work

Gallerano was a member of the Minorites and entered the religious community around 1595 as a novice. Since 1615 he was organist at San Francesco in Bergamo . From 1620 Gallerano worked in his hometown as organist at San Francesco, four years later he took over the post of Kapellmeister at the Basilica of Saint Anthony in Padua and was re-elected for another three years in 1627. When cholera broke out in Padua in 1629, the musicians were fired and the band closed. Every trace of Gallerano is lost. In 1632 he was possibly a victim of the plague. Under his successor, the chapel was re-established on February 14, 1632.

Gallerano was a composer whose works at least partially differ from contemporary church music. They are complex, often multi-choir, designed in an instrumental-vocal, concertante style. He created works for church use only. Several books with motets , masses and other vocal compositions, some with organ accompaniment, have survived.
