The Leather Pride flag, a symbol of the BDSM and leather subculture.

The Leather Pride flag is a symbol of the gay leather - and BDSM - subculture .

The flag was designed by Tony DeBlase. He presented the design for the first time on May 28, 1989 at the American International Mr. Leather event in Chicago , USA. The original of the flag can be seen in the Leather Archives and Museum in Chicago.

Although the flag is also widespread in the homosexual subculture, it is not an exclusively homosexual symbol, but is also widespread in the BDSM scene.

Tony DeBlase commented on their symbolic significance under Drummer magazine:

The flag consists of nine horizontal stripes of equal width. From above and below the stripes alternate between black and royal blue. The central stripe is white. There is a red heart in the upper left quadrant of the flag. I leave it to the viewer to interpret the colors and symbols. "
