The Food Chemistry Institute of the Federal Association of the German Confectionery Industry (LCI) is a scientific institution of the Federal Association of the German Confectionery Industry . Here, confectionery-specific issues in the areas of food safety , food quality and analysis are dealt with. The basis of the work is applied food chemistry , specializing in the various product groups and issues from the entire confectionery sector .

The main research areas of the LCI include scientific work and studies in the areas of risk analysis, crisis management and the initiation, planning and implementation of research projects, especially in cooperation with the Foundation of the German Cocoa and Chocolate Industry . The LCI is currently working intensively on the research areas of polyphenols , trans fatty acids , 3-MCPD esters and glycidyl esters as well as MOSH / MOAH mineral oil entries, acrylamide and mycotoxins .

The institute was founded in 1950. The LCI has been accredited according to DIN EN ISO 17025 since February 2005. The accreditation applies to the analysis of foodstuffs using the test methods gas chromatography (GC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS / MS).
