Rainer Wilk

Rainer Wilk (born November 22, 1963 ) is a former German professional footballer .

career

Wilk started playing soccer at SG Falkendiek 08 from Herford . He was part of the squad of German U-20 men who won the World Cup in Australia in 1981 . Rainer Wilk was the substitute goalkeeper behind Rüdiger Vollborn , under the coach at the time, Dietrich Weise . Those responsible for the professional squad of Arminia Bielefeld recognized the great talent and in 1982 brought Wilk from his own youth to the A-team of the Bundesliga club. There he was initially only the third goalkeeper behind Olli Isoaho and Volker Diergardt . From 1983/84 Wolfgang Kneib was in the Bielefelder Tor; Wilk moved up to number two and was able to book his only two Bundesliga appearances in the 1984/85 season. He moved to Eintracht Braunschweig in the 2nd Bundesliga via SC Herford , but didn't get a chance there either and was substitute keeper behind Jörg Hoßbach . In the 1986/87 season, the Braunschweiger rose to amateur football. Wilk completed four second division games, but did not return to professional football.
