from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann Samuel Leberecht Maercker (* 1808 ; † 1878 ) was a German instrument maker in Halle (Saale) . In 1832 he founded a company that manufactured pianos and other musical instruments by hand until 1907 .

Maercker had four sons, one of whom, Bernhard Maercker, took over the business in 1878. Another son, Hermann Maercker, founded the trading company Maercker & Co. around 1896, which sold pianos from its own production, but also instruments from other companies. In 1906 the workshop was destroyed by fire and the following year the trading company went bankrupt.

The trade in pianos was resumed after the First World War, the Maercker & Co. company existed in Halle / S. until 1983. The family company Maercker is still active in the service and trading of pianos.
