Lee Felsenstein
Lee Felsenstein (* 1945 in Philadelphia , USA ) is an American computer developer who developed and built the first portable computer, the Osborne 1 , among other things . His older brother, Joseph Felsenstein , is a well-known evolutionary biologist.
Before developing the Osborne 1, Felsenstein designed the hardware for the Community Memory Project in 1973 , a terminal system for public communication. He designed the "SOL" computer from Processor Technology based on the Intel 8080 processor , the PennyWhistle acoustic coupler and other devices for the S-100 bus interface.
In 1975 Felsenstein was one of the first members of the Homebrew Computer Club, which pioneered the development of personal computers . In his career he worked for various computer companies as well as on his own projects. In 2016, Felsenstein was accepted as a Fellow of the Computer History Museum .
