Leena Lander (born October 25, 1955 in Turku ) is a Finnish writer .

In addition to novels, she also writes for radio, television and theater. Her works have received several awards. In 1992 she won the Finnish Thank You for the Book Medal for her novel The Island of Black Butterflies . There are translations in several languages. She lives with her husband and three sons in southwest Finland near Turku . In her novels, the children's perspective is given a lot of space. Without condemnation, she addresses irritating topics such as Finland's cooperation with the Germans in World War II, Finnish racism, emancipation, environmental destruction or alcoholism.

Life

Leena Lander grew up in the immediate vicinity of a home for delinquent girls where her father worked. She played with these girls and made friends. When the imaginative Leena was given a typewriter at the age of eight, she began to write stories. At 15, her style became more serious and she wrote her first novel at 20. Her own childhood experiences flowed into her books.
