Alwin Blue

Alwin Arthur Robert Blaue (born September 6, 1896 in Hamburg , † November 28, 1958 in Kiel ) was a German painter , graphic artist , sculptor and craftsman .

Life

Blaue is primarily known as a sculptor for architectural sculptures on public and private buildings as well as for sculptures in free space, especially in Kiel . He learned his craft from 1919 to 1924 at the Hamburg School of Applied Arts with Johann Michael Bossard and Richard Luksch . From 1928 to 1930 he worked for Kieler Kunst-Keramik AG, where he only designed architectural sculptures. From 1929 to the end of 1930 he headed the building ceramics department there. Together with Fritz Theilmann , he was responsible for the architectural decoration of the buildings in the Kiel marine quarter. In addition to the ornaments and figurative reliefs in the marine quarter, sculptural works by Alwin Blaue can also be found at the hospital in Metzstrasse.

Alwin Blaue was married to the painter Illa Blaue from 1956 until his death .

  • 1929: Fichtestrasse 33 in Kiel, tympanum above the entrance
  • Fichtestrasse 31 and 33 in Kiel, eight ceramic wall reliefs made of clinker ceramic in the inner courtyard
  • Kleiststrasse 43–47 in Kiel, zigzag band with seven different fish each in the inner courtyard

  • Undated: Swan made of copper, still preserved today as the door crown of a new building in downtown Tondern, Storegade 6.
  • 1931: Eagle sculpture at the post office in Eutin
  • 1931: Maritime Soldiers Memorial on Hindenburgufer (corner of Bellevue) in Kiel, built by Hermann Suhr , stele made of Baltic granite quarders designed by Blaue
  • 1931: Eagle sculpture at the post office in Niebüll , no longer existing today, around the building ceramic medallions with symbols of the post office.
  • 1933: The Marientempel in Kiel was converted into a consecration place by Rudolf Schroeder in 1933 , Blau designed the memorial plaque with the names of the fallen (destroyed in the war)
  • 1935: Fachklinik Aukrug , two sculptures on the facade of the tuberculosis aftercare home Heidhof , showing a shepherd with a lamb and a gardener with tools and a beehive.

Information signs

In Kiel, Blaue created signs, company signs, house numbers and dates for many private and public clients, some of which are still preserved today.

Grave decorations

Alwin Blaue executed numerous tombstones and tombs, about the whereabouts of which nothing is known. He also designed some grave crosses and grave sculptures.
