Left Behind Index

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Left Behind Index ( LBI ) is one of the key figures used to record the quality of the services at an airport or a hub in a transport system.

The LBI is one of the key performance indicators of the operational area of airport administration. This describes how much checked baggage is left behind at an airport or does not arrive at its actual destination as planned.

The International Air Transport Association determines this index for all major flight hubs. For example, an index of 1.3 was determined in 2010 for Frankfurt am Main Airport . This means that out of 100 pieces of luggage, 1.3 were misdirected or lost. A worldwide lost baggage tracer (indicator for lost baggage) should help to keep this rate low.

The LBI is included in the evaluation for the “Best Airport Awards” given by the IATA.
