Legend of the Blue Sea ( 푸른 바다 의 전설 Pureun Bada-ui Jeonseol ) is a South Korean television series starring Lee Min-ho and Jun Ji-hyun . It consists of 20 episodes and was aired on SBS from November 16, 2016 to January 25, 2017 .

The television series centers on the love story of a mermaid named Shim Cheong and Heo Joon-jae, the son of a wealthy businessman who becomes a shrewd cheat after his parents divorce. Her story focuses on rebirth, fate and unrequited love and is juxtaposed with the parallel story of her incarnations from the Joseon era, the mermaid Se-hwa and the city chief Kim Dam-ryeong.
