Legendre is an impact crater to the east of the front of the moon , southeast of Mare Fecunditatis , west of Humboldt crater and southeast of Petavius . The roughly oval-shaped crater is heavily eroded, the interior largely flat.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the French mathematician Adrien-Marie Legendre .
