Legist (job title)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In Austrian usage , Legist ( Latin lex = law ) is the professional title for lawyers who are exclusively or predominantly entrusted with drafting legal or regulation texts . An essential criterion for differentiation from other legal professions is that lawyers create general legal provisions and not individual ones (such as notices or judgments ).

In Austria , the majority of lawyers are either contract employees or civil servants in the service of the public sector.

history

In the Middle Ages , lawyers were also those scientists who dealt with Roman law (see Legistics ) to distinguish them from canonists .
