Lehmener Würzlay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Lehmener Würzlay is one of the four vineyards in Lehmen an der Untermosel (Terrassenmosel). The name comes from the Middle High German 'wurzgarten', a garden in which, among other things, tasty and smelling herbs are grown. It is mainly a terraced steep slope on stony slate and greywacken weathered soil (80% steep, 15% sloping, 5% flat). The total area is ~ 12  ha . Only ~ 7 ha are cultivated, 2.7 ha of which have been controlled organically since 1989.

The slope is up to 70% in the east-south-south-east direction (80 to 180  m above sea  level ). Grape varieties: Mainly Riesling (85%), but also Pinot Noir (10%) and Regent (3%).
