The clay street ( Estonian Viru tänav ) is a street in the Estonian capital Tallinn ( German  Reval ).

It runs from the Russian market (Estonian Viru väljak ) for about 370 meters into the old town of Reval until it joins the old market ( Vana turg ) from the east .

Near its eastern end is the city's flower market. The Gartenstrasse ( Aia tänav ) joins from the north . To the south lies the Kussberg ( Musumägi ) green area . To the west of the flower market, the clay road crosses the clay gate of the Reval city fortifications . Immediately behind the clay gate, the Wallstrasse ( Valli tänav ) flows from the south and the Old Clay Road ( Vana-Viru tänav ) from the north . Then Lemstrasse crosses Mauerstrasse ( Müürivahe tänav ). Shortly afterwards, Badstubenstrasse ( Sauna tänav ) opens out from the south . The historic Peppersack merchant's house is located at the western end of the street in the area where it joins the Alter Markt .

Design and history

Mud Street is one of the city's major shopping streets and is home to boutiques, souvenir shops, restaurants and nightclubs. A larger complex is the De La Gardie shopping center, which was built in 2000 on the site of a department store destroyed in the Soviet air raid on Reval in 1944. After the gates of the clay gate were largely demolished in 1888, apart from the remains of the front gate, a horse-drawn tram ran through the clay road.
