Loan transfer
Loan transfer is a term created by Werner Betz in 1974 to denote a compound term that is similar to a foreign word that also consists of several individual parts . One example is the German word skyscraper , which arose as a loan transfer from the English word skyscraper (literally translated "sky scraper"). If all parts of the foreign word are translated literally, one speaks of a loan translation .
The term and other Betzian loanword terminology is used primarily in German, German-language Romance studies and Slavic studies.
