Leica Digital Module R

back

The Leica Digital-Modul-R is a digital back that expands the two analog Leica camera types R8 and R9 to form hybrid cameras. The extension allows both analog ( film ) and digital ( SD card ) photos to be taken. The two cameras are the only hybrid 35mm cameras in the world .

Leica began shipping on June 15, 2005, and production was discontinued in February 2007.

The image quality of the digital back was rated only slightly worse than that of a high-quality color film. When comparing analog and digital backs, it must be taken into account that the digital back has a format factor of 1.37, so that the image sensor, which is equipped with ten million pixels , captures a significantly smaller angle of view than when using 35mm film . The digital back can be operated with a maximum exposure index of ISO 1600.
