Performance class (tennis)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Performance classes (abbreviation: LK) are used in tennis to classify players according to their skill level. They are used in tournaments to find suitable opponents. The team line-ups in competition operations are also based on the performance classes.

history

Initially, many state associations in German tennis used their own LK systems to classify their players. As part of the establishment of the National Tennis Database (NTDB) of the German Tennis Federation (DTB) , a harmonization of the systems was pushed forward in order to be able to carry out a central storage and evaluation of the data.

Classification

The performance classes range from LK1 (ranked player) to LK23 (lowest classification).

Points can be collected through individual victories in media games and tournaments (so-called LK tournaments). Only games won are rewarded with points. For every game that is rated with LK points, you receive corresponding points if you win:

  • 150 points if you win against a player whose LK is 2 or more levels better
  • 100 points if you win against a player whose LK is exactly 1 level better
  • 50 points if you win against a player with exactly the same SC
  • 30 points if you win against a player whose LK is exactly 1 level worse
  • 15 points if you win against a player whose LK is exactly 2 levels worse
  • 10 points if you win against a player whose LK is exactly 3 levels worse
  • 5 points if you win against a player whose LK is 4 or more levels worse

For certain tournaments (e.g. state championship) up to 35 bonus points are awarded. Points are deducted, so-called malus points, if you do not appear without a doctor's certificate.

On September 30th of each year, each player is assigned to a performance class for the coming year based on the points collected from the previous year.

The performance class 1

Performance class 1 cannot be achieved with evaluation points. Only players who are named in the DTB's annual ranking from September 30th of each year are assigned to LK1. If a player loses his place in the ranking list, he receives his calculated performance class (maximum LK2).
