The NSU 9/22 PS was a mid-range car that Neckarsulmer Fahrzeugwerke Aktiengesellschaft built from 1911 to 1912. It was the successor to the 9/18 hp model .
The water-cooled engine was a four-cylinder block engine , still with a displacement of 2208 cm³ (bore × stroke = 75 × 125 mm), but which now made 22 hp (16 kW) at 1400 rpm. This engine had a triple bearing crankshaft, double magneto ignition , pressure circulation lubrication and standing valves in a T-cylinder head. The 50 liter fuel tank was in the back. The fuel was pumped forward into the carburetor through the exhaust gases. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a multi-disc clutch in an oil bath, a three-speed gearbox with a link shift on the right and a cardan shaft . The wheelbase of the cars had grown by 450 mm to 3100 mm, and their track width was unchanged at 1300 mm. The weight of the chassis had grown to 1300 kg. The top speed was around 65 km / h.
In 1912 the more powerful NSU 9/27 PS was added. Its cylinder head was designed in an L-shape instead of a T-shape and the engine output rose to 27 hp (20 kW).
The 8/24 PS replaced these models as early as 1911 .
