The NSU Sulmobil was a three- wheeler that Neckarsulmer Fahrzeugwerke Aktiengesellschaft built from 1905 to 1909.

description

The Sulmobil was the manufacturer's first self-designed car. Three versions were produced, initially with a one- cylinder engine and then with a two-cylinder engine .

The single-cylinder models (types II and IV) had an air-cooled engine with an upright cylinder that delivered 3.5 HP (2.6 kW) with a displacement of 451 cm³ (bore × stroke = 82 × 86 mm). The engine had a high-voltage magneto ignition and sat, interlocked with the three-speed gearbox, on the single front wheel, which it drove via a chain. The transmission was to be operated by a gate circuit on the right. The wheelbase was 2000 mm, the track width of the rear axle 1150 mm and the length of the vehicles approx. 2950 mm. The weight of the chassis was included. 300 kg, the maximum speed at 35 km / h.

The two-cylinder model (Type III) had a displacement of 795 cm³ (bore × stroke = 75 × 90 mm) and developed 5.5 HP (4.0 kW). The other data corresponded to those of the single-cylinder models.

As a hybrid between car and motorcycle, the vehicles were usually provided with a wooden luggage box 1000 × 800 × 900 mm. But there are also said to have been tricycles that were used to transport people.

Types II and IV were built between 1905 and 1909, while Type III was not added until 1909. In the same year the building of the 2500 Mark expensive three-wheeled vehicles was given up again because the customers did not appreciate the vehicles because of the small application possibilities (payload: 150-200 kg).

Another source confirms 1905 as the start of production.
