The NSU 2½-tonner was a truck that Neckarsulmer Fahrzeugwerke Aktiengesellschaft built between 1914 and 1926. It was developed from the 14/40 hp car model .
The water-cooled engine was a four-cylinder block engine with a displacement of 3380 cm³ (bore × stroke = 91 × 130 mm), which made 42 hp (31 kW) at 1700 / min. The engine had a triple-bearing crankshaft, magneto ignition , pressure circulation lubrication and counter-controlled valves . The fuel tank was in the back. The fuel was conveyed through the exhaust gases, with part of the exhaust gases being led into the tightly closed tank, creating a slight overpressure there and thus ensuring that the fuel flowed forward to the carburetor. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a multi-disc clutch in an oil bath, a four-speed gearbox with a link shift on the right and a cardan shaft . The wheelbase of the cars was 3805 mm, their track width 1500 mm and the curb weight 2200 kg. The top speed was around 35 km / h.
The car, with solid rubber tires, was equipped with a flatbed, partly with bows and tarpaulin or with a closed box. Initially it was only built for the army , but from 1921 a modified version was also available to private buyers. It was particularly suitable for haulage companies that had previously only operated horse-drawn vehicles: According to the manufacturer's calculations, the operating costs were only 0.275 RM / km, while those of a horse-drawn vehicle were 0.63 RM / km. In 1926 the construction of the 2½-tonner was stopped without a successor.
