Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) is an honor society for electrical engineers and computer scientists . The organization, founded in 1904, chose the first, fourth and last letters of the Greek word for electron as its name . Initially, HKN was an organization aimed exclusively at US universities to honor particularly good students in electrical engineering and to promote the profession, in particular by networking its members. Once elected, you remain a member for life.

Qualified IT specialists have also been accepted since 2000. You can only become a member by invitation after a good degree or after selection by committees that award various awards .

In September 2010, HKN became an organizational unit of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). Since then, only IEEE members can also become HCN members.

There are now over 175 chapters, affiliated sub-organizations at various universities, including outside the USA (Canada, India, Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico).

The Bridge is HKN's official magazine.
