The NSU 10/20 PS was a middle class passenger car that Neckarsulmer Fahrzeugwerke Aktiengesellschaft built between 1907 and 1910. At that time, the model was the largest car of its own design in the manufacturer's model range.

The water-cooled engine was a four-cylinder block engine with a displacement of 2608 cm³ (bore × stroke = 85 × 115 mm), which made 20 hp (15 kW) at 1400 rpm. This engine had a triple bearing crankshaft, magneto ignition , automatic central lubrication and upright valves in a T-cylinder head. The 65 liter fuel tank was in the back. The fuel was conveyed through the exhaust gases, with part of the exhaust gases being led into the tightly closed tank, creating a slight overpressure there and thus ensuring that the fuel flowed forward to the carburetor. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a multi-disc clutch in an oil bath, a four-speed gearbox with a link shift on the right and a cardan shaft . The wheelbase of the cars was 3020 mm, their track width was 1300 mm and the weight of the chassis was 750 kg. The top speed was around 75 km / h.

The removable rims from the wooden spoke wheels were touted as a special technical innovation, which represented a clear advantage over earlier designs in the event of flat tires.

In 1910 the more powerful 10/22 hp replaced the model.

Racing use

The factory used two 10/20 hp vehicles on the Prinz-Heinrich-Fahrt in 1908 , the first use of NSU cars in a racing competition. Particular successes could not be achieved. In the following year, three cars of this type took part in this journey, covered the 1839 km long route from Berlin via Breslau , Budapest , Vienna and Salzburg to Munich without penalty points and received the silver badge for it.
