The NSU 6/30 PS was a middle class passenger car that Neckarsulmer Fahrzeugwerke Aktiengesellschaft built in 1928. It was the series model developed from the 6/60 HP Kompressor racing car .

The water-cooled engine was a six-cylinder in- line engine , with a displacement of 1567 cm³ (bore × stroke = 60.8 × 99 mm), which made 30 hp (22 kW) at 3000 rpm. This engine had a four-bearing crankshaft, battery ignition , pressure circulating lubrication and standing valves in an L-cylinder head. The fuel tank was in the back. The fuel was pumped forward into the carburetor by a vacuum. The engine power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a multi-disc clutch in an oil bath, a three-speed gearbox with center shift and a cardan shaft . The wheelbase of the cars was 2815 mm, their track width was 1250 mm and their weight was 1040 kg. The top speed was around 85 km / h.

NSU manufactured the six-cylinder cars in the new branch in Heilbronn . This is also where the bodies for the 4-seat touring car, the 4-seat sedan and the roadster with 2 + 2 seats were made. The bodies for the all-steel limousine came from Ambi-Budd in Berlin , those for the 2-seater roadster and the 2-seater convertible from Schebera , Drauz or the Weinsberg bodyworks .

In October 1928 the more powerful 7/34 PS model replaced the 6/30 PS.

Record runs

In 1928 an NSU 6/30 PS covered a distance of 20,000 km on the Nürburgring within 18 days and nights without interruption and without a breakdown. In 1930 the ADAC carried out a long distance drive for compressorless touring cars over 8 hours on the same route. NSU took part in this trip with a 6/30 hp model without penalty points and received the team award “Large gold medal” with an honorary diploma.
