Leading clerical office

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The leading spiritual office was a collective bishop's office in the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) until May 1, 2010 . At its head was the church president elected for eight years by the church synod . He continued to include the deputy church president and the last six provosts elected for six years each .

The leading ecclesiastical office had the task of ensuring compliance with the church order, helping to shape the spiritual life in the congregations and deaneries and preparing the resolutions of the church leadership on spiritual issues. It met at the headquarters of the church government in Darmstadt .

The legal basis for the leading spiritual office was regulated in the order of the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau in paragraphs 51 to 52. The 10th Synod of the EKHN in April 2008 discussed an amendment to the church ordinance at the first reading and adopted it in February 2010 with the church law on the revision of the church ordinance of February 20, 2010. This merged the leading spiritual office with the church leadership. In addition to the church president, his deputy and the provost with an advisory vote, the church leadership also includes the three heads of the church administration. An original proposal that the church president should use the official title of bishop in future was rejected by the church synod.
