Guidelines for a child and youth friendly city

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The guidelines for a child- and youth-friendly city are a catalog of guidelines and proposed measures for Berlin , which the Berlin Senate developed in 1999 with the cooperation of the German Institute for Urban Studies . The guidelines represent an orientation framework for the action of politics and administration. According to the Berlin Senate, the guidelines should form a suitable basis for child and family impact assessments.

In 1997, the Berlin House of Representatives asked the Berlin Senate to draw up a list of criteria for the “guidelines for a child and youth-friendly city” and a proposal for a binding procedure. In 1998, 1999 and 2002 interim implementation reports were drawn up.

The guidelines are divided into three subject areas

  1. Representation of interests,
  2. Housing, urban and traffic planning,
  3. City as a social place.

The guidelines contributed to the conception of the UNICEF year 1999 "Berlin - Capital for Children" and should be included as one of the essential planning bases for the creation of the Berlin 2020 urban development concept . They coincide to a high degree with the contents of Agenda 21 . Their active application, supplementation and updating is provided as eighth of ten action goals in the Local Agenda 21 Berlin .
