A Leitmal is a traffic sign that is used to mark permanent obstacles or other dangerous places. It consists of a red and white hatched area that has retroreflective properties and is therefore clearly visible even in the dark.

Guide marks are used in particular in tunnels and bridges that have a restricted passage height or width (restricted clearance profile ). In some cases, a height control, also with a guide mark, is attached beforehand. In the area of job security , scaffolding that protrudes into the traffic area is marked with guide marks.
