Leitz-Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Leitz-Austria Vertriebs GmbH was an Austrian wholesale company for consumer electronics based in Vienna .

history

Since 1955 Leitz Austria has been active as a wholesaler and agency for the cameras of the German manufacturer Leitz ( Leica brand ). Were expelled also among other mobile phones from Hyundai Mobile , a subsidiary of Hyundai Group , cordless phones, digital cameras and fax machines. Norbert Winkler has been CEO since 1997.

New lines of business

In 1997 the wholesale of cell phones was established as a further line of business. The Leitz-Austria Vertriebs GmbH initially took over the distribution of mobile phones by the South Korean manufacturer Samsung Electronics to the various network operators in Austria. Leitz-Austria also sold other brands, but this business only had a very small share. The turnover of Leitz-Austria Vertriebs GmbH increased from the equivalent of 15 million euros in the first year to 2005 to 240 million euros, since then the turnover has fallen. On September 1, 2007, Samsung terminated the business relationship in order to take over the sales itself.

Shortly afterwards, however, the also South Korean Samsung competitor Hyundai Mobile was won as a new license partner , whereupon Hyundai Mobile Europe Generalvertretung GmbH was founded as a 100% subsidiary of Leitz-Austria . However, the company's turnover has decreased from 100 million to 60 million euros (2008).

Further expansion and bankruptcy

A Europe-wide Hyundai sales network was to be set up from 2008. Due to the high costs caused by the expansion plans, Leitz-Austria became overindebted with 17.4 million euros and had to file for bankruptcy at the end of June 2009 after an out-of-court settlement attempt with the creditors had failed . It also applied for a procedure under the compensation regulations for its subsidiary . A follow-up bankruptcy followed and the company was deleted in 2012.
