The Hyundai Group was the largest conglomerate in South Korea for a long time before it was overtaken by the Samsung Group.
Hyundai was founded in 1947 by Chung Ju-yung as a construction company. The rapid rise and branching out into a large corporation began after the company first carried out construction projects in Thailand in 1965 . The group founded new companies in quick succession , which grew into large companies in the areas of plant , heavy machinery , ship and ship engine construction , furniture , electrical engineering , electronics and vehicle construction as well as insurance .
Due to the economic crisis in Asia at the end of the 1990s, the company had to be restructured , with the companies Hyundai Kia Automotive Group , Hyundai Department Store Group , Hyundai Development Group and Hyundai Heavy Industries Group being spun off from the group.
